Tips for Central HVAC Maintenance

When you have a HVAC services system installed in your home, you need it to perform just the way it did when it was new. However, over time, the system suffers wear and tear, and improper maintenance. In order to achieve the temperatures you want all day long, your heating system will have to work overtime, which will eventually cost you more in energy consumption. This is why you need to check it regularly.

Central Air Conditioning Maintenance

Your heating system works just like a car. It is easy to buy one, but keeping it running every single day of the year requires a lot of work. Proper maintenance is key. You must pay attention to simple things like having the system in a properly aerated area, cleaning the filters often, getting an expert to inspect it frequently etc. These are some of the things that make it perform efficiently.

If you maintain your AC repair system properly, you should get at least a decade of good service from it. There are models that have been built to last longer, 15 years or even more. Maintenance is about so much more than most people think of. You need to make sure that the air conditioner is draining properly or is not leaking. If for some reason there is too much water escaping from it or remaining in it, something is wrong and you should have it checked immediately.

The filter has to be changed at least once a month. This is not just for the sake of your air conditioner, but also for the health of anyone in the house who has allergies. While at it, clean the exterior air compressor too. You can use a garden hose. Having cleaned the compressor, make sure it is in an area where there is an uninterrupted flow of air.

Clean Your Ductwork

Make sure you get a professional to inspect and clean your heating repair ductwork at least once every 3 years. Cleaning the ducts keeps your home free of the dust that is trapped within the system and keeps getting circulated. For a house with hardwood floors or carpets, this is very important.

Proper Conditioning

If you are suspicious of the efficient performance of your air conditioner, or its effectiveness, get an expert to look at it. They have experience dealing with different systems, so you can be certain they will detect a problem that you might not have known about.

You don’t always have to keep the air conditioning unit running. If you have whole house fans, ceiling fans or box fans, you can keep them running to circulate the cool air in the house faster. For the best performance, make sure you don’t have furniture or anything else like drapes blocking the vent access.

While looking at ventilation for your home, make sure you don’t ignore the attic. With proper ventilation, you will have good airflow in the attic, which in the long run will reduce your spending on heating/cooling-related energy consumption by up to 12%.
