DIY Privacy Fence Installation

A tall, solid privacy fence is an imposing structure, but installing one is in the grasp of most resourceful homeowners. Any fence project will require you to dig post holes, ensure that the articles are plumb, and set the posts in concrete. Following the posts are put, many styles of privacy fence are relatively easy to install.

Stockade Fence

A stockade fence is a type of tall picket fence in which the vertical planks, or pickets, are butted against each other rather than being spaced with a gap in between them, a layout which offers a high degree of privacy. This kind of fence is constructed the same way as a traditional picket fence, with horizontal stringers running between horizontal posts; the vertical pickets are then connected to the stringers with nails or screws. Buying pre-cut pickets will both accelerate the task and make the project easier for do-it-yourself fence builders.

Prefabricated Panels

Prefabricated fence panels create a fence-building project much more manageable for a do-it-yourselfer. A prefabricated stockade fence will still require you to dig post holes and set the vertical fence posts in the same way that is required for a custom-built stockade fence, but after the posts are set, the prefabricated panels, which consist of pickets already attached to stringers, are only connected to the posts with screws. The panels hasten the fence-building process, but because they are big and heavy, they require that at least 2 people to finish the installation.

Vinyl Fence

Vinyl privacy planners are usually designed to mimic wood privacy fence styles, and the setup process for prefabricated plastic fence panels is similar to the process for installing laminated wood panels. Vertical articles are laid out and set the same way that wood posts are put, as well as the fence panels are attached between them. Vinyl fence processes, unlike wood panel fences, usually include mounts that attach to the posts and into which the fence panels fit.

Rolled Panels

Rolled bamboo fencing is composed of individual bamboo canes attached to another by strings run through holes drilled in the canes; the panels are then rolled for handling and transportation. The process of installing a rolled bamboo privacy fence begins in the same way as the setup of other privacy planners, with the setting of vertical posts and the running of horizontal stringers between the posts. The panels are then unrolled, pressed against the stringers and attached with screws.
