Blue Butterfly delphinium (Delphinium grandiflorum “Blue Butterfly”) brightens the landscape with distinctive blue blooms from late spring through early summer. Blue Butterfly delphinium is diminutive, topping out at 12 to 18-inches while some kinds of delphinium achieve amazing heights of up to 6 feet. Water delphiniums to keep the soil moist but never soggy. As an overall rule, delphinium benefits through the summer from 1-inch of water every week, both from irrigation or rain. Never allow the soil to become totally dry.
Water keep the foliage as dry as possible and delphinium in the root of the plant. Delphinium is vulnerable to mildew, rot and other issues caused by conditions that are moist.

Cut delphinium stalks to the bottom in early autumn or late summer. Spread a clean layer of mulch throughout the plant to insulate the roots for the winter that was coming.
